Fresh off his seventh consecutive victory, four of which have come in world title fights, WBA Super Bantamweight Champion, Celestino Caballero is hunting for some bigger game at 122 pounds as he looks to unify the World Title.
“I’ve beaten champions, contenders, and prospects – whoever was put in front of me,” said Caballero (26-2, 18 KOs). “Now I want to unify this title to prove who the best super bantamweight in the world is.”
The 5-11 southpaw from Colon, Panama, defeated tough Mexican contender Ricardo Castillo in nine rounds on March 16 in Hollywood, Florida. He also holds a lopsided win over current WBO Super Bantamweight Champion, Daniel Ponce De Leon, another Mexico native who has been reluctant to fight his conqueror a second time. So “Pelenchin’s sights are set on recently crowned WBC Champion Rafael Marquez.
“I congratulate Marquez on his victory over Israel Vazquez, who is a true champion in this sport,” said Caballero. “Now we’ll see if Marquez can live up to that title by fighting me. He made a lot of noise about me before; let’s see is he still willing to back up his words? He has seen what I’ve done to his countrymen, De Leon and Castillo – now’s his chance, let’s see if he has the guts to try to get some revenge. I doubt it!”
