U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada promises new look.

By Boxing Press March 23rd, 2007 All Press Releases

Estrada-Manley at Mohegan Sun

2004 U.S. Olympian Jason "Big Six" Estrada, coming off of his first pro loss, promises to unveil a new, relatively svelte physical look April 6 for his six-round fight against Alvin Manley (11-1-2, 3 KOs) at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

In his last action (Nov. 17, 2006), Estrada weighed 257 pounds and lost an eight-round majority decision on Showbox: The Next Generation to Travis Walker (21-0-1, 17 KOs), 2003 National Golden Gloves champion, who "Big Six" had fought and beaten three times in the amateurs.

"I've been training very, very hard for this fight and I'm going to shock my critics when I step on the scale," Estrada promised. "I was originally supposed to fight in February so I've been in training since early December. I lost that fight because of my arm but I had a lot of time to sit down and think. I realized that I need to be in optimum shape for every fight and another loss at this stage of my career would be fatal. I'll be in the best condition of my life for this fight."

Estrada-Manley is the chief supporting fight on "Collision Course," promoted by Jimmy Burchfield's Classic Sports & Entertainment, Inc. on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, headlined by Estrada's stablemate and lifelong friend, WBA No. 6 rated cruiserweight Matt "Too Smooth" Godfrey (14-0, 8 KOs) against Felix "Bad News" Cora, Jr. (18-1-2, 9 KOs) for Godfrey's NABA title belt and vacant NABF championship.

Tickets for "Collision Course," priced at $75.00, $40.00 and $25.00, are available through Mohegan Sun's box office. For more information contact Mohegan Sun (www.mohegansun.com/1.800.226.7711) or CES (www.cesboxing.com/1.401.724.2253/3354).

Estrada was one of the most celebrated amateur boxers in U.S. history, registering a 261-14 record in the United States, including an unprecedented three consecutive triumphs in the U.S. Nationals and U.S. Challenge (2001-2003). He captured a gold medal at the 2003 Pan-American Games and represented the U.S. in the 2004 Olympics.
