HBO World Championship Boxing: Joe Calzaghe vs. Peter Manfredo, Jr. And Amir Khan vs. Steffy Bull

By Boxing Press April 7th, 2007 All Press Releases

A super middleweight title fight tops an exciting doubleheader from across the pond when World Championship Boxing: Joe Calzaghe vs. Peter Manfredo, Jr. and Amir Khan vs. Steffy Bull is seen live Saturday, April 7 at 5:00 PM ET/2:00 PM PT, and replayed later that same day at 10:00 PM ET/PT, from Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on HBO.

The World Championship Boxing team will be ringside for the event, which will be presented in HD-TV and in Spanish language on HBO Latino.

HBO2 playdates: April 8 (10:00 a.m., 4:30 p.m.) and 10 (10:30 p.m.). Times are ET/PT.

In his second HBO appearance, undefeated super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe (42-0, 31 KOs) from Newbridge, Wales defends his title against hot newcomer Peter Manfredo, Jr. (26-3, 12 KOs) from Providence, RI in a scheduled 12-round bout.

Calzaghe, 34, who has been electrifying sold-out arenas in England, is coming off a dominating 2006 campaign and is eager to impress American fans with his crowd-pleasing style.

Co-trained by the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard, the 25-year-old Manfredo has other plans for this 168-pound title. A crowd in excess of 25,000 is expected at Millennium Stadium, which has a retractable roof that will be closed on fight night.

The opening bout is a ten-round lightweight bout between British sensation Amir Khan (11-0, 8 KOs) and fellow Briton Steffy Bull (24-4-1, 5 KOs).

Khan captured silver at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and has been on the fast track since turning pro. Bull, a rugged southpaw with considerably more experience, promises to be the toughest test to date of Khan's young pro career.
