Allen Pulls Out Of Boxing Showdown With Bostic

By Boxing Press April 12th, 2007 All Press Releases

"Armed and Dangerous? He's more like Armed and Shameless"

Apparently, word of boxing's best kept secret made its way to Robert Allen's training camp. The former world title challenger abruptly withdrew from next week's scheduled showdown with Jameson "Jamie Kang" Bostic, Team Bostic found out earlier Wednesday.

Surely, Allen (38-5-0-1 NC, 27KO) has a good reason for pulling out just a week before the fight.

Bostic was given the reasons. Whether or not they qualify as good reasons, we'll let everyone else decide.

"My manager Bob Cerbe received a phone call from Team Allen, saying he was no longer interested in fighting me. Apparently, the fact that I'm 6'4" and training with Buddy McGirt scared them off."

"That man has the nerve to call himself Armed and Dangerous? That scared punk looks more like 'Armed and Shameless' if you ask me."

The cancellation is a huge letdown for Bostic (10-3, 7KO), who had recently joined forces with McGirt in getting ready for this bout and his future. Presently riding a seven-fight win streak, the 6'4" southpaw has managed to get his career back on track following a rough start.

What was lacking for the moment was a notable win. A victory over Allen next week would've helped resolve that. Instead, Bostic has nothing to show for it but wasted time in camp, and plane tickets for a show of which he's no longer a participant. Jameson will still be in attendance on the April 18 show.

He's hoping not to see Allen there, least of all in the ring.

"I'm saying, he's the one that pulled out of the fight. The promoters (Hitz Boxing) could've at least kept me on the card and found a replacement.

"Nevertheless, I'll still be there. Allen better not be. If he is, then there may be a fight after all, in or out of the ring."

While Allen heads for protective custody, or wherever it is he's elected to run off to, Bostic goes back to the drawing board.

"It's right back to the same old; I see myself going to gym tomorrow, perfecting my style, and awaiting the next victim. I heard another name mentioned, but don't want to get my hopes up only to be let down like this again."

The other name that was offered was former middleweight titlist William Joppy. The former Beltway resident returns to his old stomping grounds, as he appears in the co-feature slot for the April 27 edition of ESPN's Friday Night Fights. He is presently in need of an opponent. Bostic's name is on the list – at least for the moment.

"If they put up the right money, I'll gladly take Joppy on ESPN2."

Whether or not the fight materializes, Bostic also has a world-class training camp ahead. Representatives for Antonio Margarito have reached out to the 23-year old prospect, as they are in need for tall southpaws to help emulate the style of his future opponent, undefeated Paul Williams.

Bostic is due to check into camp in early May, if not sooner.

"If no fights materialize and they're ready for me, I'm there."

The question is, where does he go from there?

"Hopefully it's Donovan George in the near future, or possibly a spot on the Margarito-Williams under card. Whatever comes my way."

Suffice to say, Robert Allen won't be heading in that direction anytime soon.
