Boxing Prospect John Duddy And Promoter Irish Ropes Sponsor NYC Fundraiser

By Boxing Press April 16th, 2007 All Press Releases

IBA World middleweight champion "Ireland's" John Duddy and Irish Ropes Promotions are sponsoring a June 2nd dinner-dance fundraiser in the Manhattan Room at the famed Rosie O'Grady's (149 West 7th Avenue) for Thomas Jefferson High School students in Brooklyn.

Duddy (19-0, 15 KOs), rated No. 8 by the WBO and No. 9 by the IBF, reigns as the IBA World and WBC Continental Americas middleweight champion. The native of Derry, Northern Ireland has been living in Queens, New York for several years. He will be headlining an Irish Ropes Promotions show on May 18 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

"Boxing was my ticket out and we hope to raise $100,000 to send two deserving students to college so they can pursue their dreams and aspirations," Duddy explained. "The scholarships will be worth $44,000 each and the remaining monies will go to a Jefferson High teacher or two so they can continue their education. I'm proud to be part of this great fundraiser and I hope my fans will be able to contribute."

Tax-deductible donations are $150.00 per person. The dinner-dance fundraiser will commence with a cocktail hour (6-7 PM), followed by a five-course dinner and music by Keltic Cross. A 45-minute documentary about Duddy and Irish Ropes, The Irish Ropes, will make its first public screening. Produced by Bob Sarnoff, The Irish Ropes documentary made its world premier on St. Patrick's Day at the Del Ray Beach Film Festival.

"We want to give back to the community," Irish Ropes president Eddie McLoughlin added. "Our charity work crosses all ethnic boundaries and we want these students to know that they haven't been forgotten. They need some financial aid to attend college and we want to knockout expenses for them and their families."

For those unable to attend the fundraiser but interested in contributing and/or placing an advertisement in the fundraiser's program, call Irish Ropes Promotions at 212.835.1582 or go to its web site at www.irishropes.com, where the Jefferson High student scholarship candidates soon may be viewed in a short video.
