Chester’s teenage welterweight Chris Goodwin will step between the ropes for the third time as a professional when he returns to the Potteries on 12th May. Chris impressed last time out when he secured his inaugural victory by means of a technically accomplished switch-hitting performance that left his significantly more experienced opponent Kristian Laight totally confused.
Goodwin will again appear on an Impact Boxing promoted event at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke and will be seeking to continue in the winning vein against an, as yet, unconfirmed opponent.
18 year old Goodwin has recorded one victory and one defeat from his first two starts and has shown promise in both bouts to date. Despite his potential, no one is in a hurry to move Chris on.
“I am happy with the progress that Chris has made so far,” said Steve Goodwin, Chris’s father and coach. “He’s still got a lot to learn and needs to gain much more experience before he gets thrown in with any of the contenders in the welterweight division. Having said that, it’s still important that he has opponents that will challenge him. There’s no point in getting him opponents that he can easily beat because he won’t learn anything from that.”
“Both Chris and myself are delighted to be boxing in Stoke again, we had a really good experience last time and Impact Boxing have looked after us very well so far. Hopefully, it’s an association that will continue for some time to come.”
Tickets for Chris’s bout which is part of a seven fight card can be obtained from Impact Boxing on 0845 156 7168 or by visiting their website: www.impactboxing.com
