“Macho” Miguel Hernandez Added To Next 8 Count Boxing Bill

By Boxing Press April 20th, 2007 All Press Releases

Chicago favorite Macho Miguel Hernandez returns to battle in Chicago for the first time in 15 months this Friday night at Cicero Stadium as part of the "Judgement Day" professional boxing card presented by Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions.

Hernandez’s return home comes after three terrific battles as Macho won the WBC/US Middleweight Title from Ryan Davis and battled former world champions Raul Marquez and Yory Boy Campas in outstanding fights.

Judgement Day is another action packed evening of world class professional boxing presented by 8 Count Productions and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions along with TCF Bank and Tecate Beer.

Said Pesoli about Hernandez, “We’re very happy to bring Macho back to Chicago. He’s a tremendous favorite of our fans. In both the Yory Boy Campas and Raul Marquez fight’s Macho performed very well, particularly given the disparity in experience. Marquez was the first southpaw Macho had fought and it was a very close fight until the stoppage.

Against Ryan Davis, Macho simply outworked him and did a terrific job of coming on strong in the last couple of rounds.”

In his last fight on July 15, 2006, Hernandez battled Yory Boy Campas at the Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Michigan for five strong rounds before the fight was stopped in the sixth round due to a cut which Hernandez suffered earlier in the bout.

Prior to that, Hernandez traveled to Kinder, Louisiana on April 29, 2006, to face Raul Marquez which resulted in both warriors battling for eight even rounds. In the ninth round the fight was stopped by the referee and awarded to Marquez, a stoppage many at ringside felt was premature due to the back and forth continuous action throughout the war.

In winning the WBC/US Title from Ryan Davis in Coral Gables, Florida on February 10, 2006, Macho was very consistent with pressure throughout the fight and turned up the heat in the late rounds to win a majority decision.

The full Judgement Day card is

Abner Mares vs. Angel Priolo, 12 rounds, bantamweights,

WBO NABO bantamweight title

Mike Nevitt vs. Otis Griffin, 12 rounds, light heavyweights,

WBO NABO light heavyweight title

Jonathan Oquendo vs. Oscar Andrade, ten rounds, super bantamweights

Miguel Hernandez vs. TBA, middleweights, six rounds

Trinidad Garcia vs. Jesse Barbot, junior middleweights, six rounds

Deividas Nekrasas vs. Larry Carter, cruiserweights, four rounds

Luis Pelayo vs. David Del Valle, super bantamweights, four rounds

The weigh-in for this event will take place on Thursday, April 19 as Las Islas Marias, 6550 W. Fullerton on the northwest side of Chicago at 7pm.

The Master of Ceremonies for this event will be the internationally recognized voice of Latino boxing, Lupe Contreras.
