DiBella Boxing’s Jose Navarro Calls Out Jorge Arce, Christian Mijares, HBO And Showtime

By Boxing Press April 21st, 2007 All Press Releases

DiBella Entertainment’s super flyweight star Jose Navarro (25-2, 11 KO’s), ranked second in the WBO, fourth in the WBC, sixth in the WBA, and seventh in the IBF, believes that he is number one in his division, and says that “three will be the charm” in his quest for a world championship.

“I can beat everybody in super flyweight, and want a shot at Christian Mijares (WBC champion) and a chance to further expose (no. 1 ranked) Jorge Arce in the ring,” says the flashy southpaw. “But talk is cheap, so I will prove that I am the best in the middle of the ring. I respect them, but know that I will beat them.”

Navarro, who will next fight on the undercard of Jermain Taylor-Cory Spinks in Memphis on May 19, had the only two setbacks of his career in title opportunities when he traveled to Japan to face the belt holders on their home turf. In 2003, Navarro was robbed in a controversial decision to Katsushige Kawashima, and last year he lost a close decision to Masamori Tokuyama.

“It’s tough fighting the champion in his home town, especially when it’s in another country,” says Navarro. “But I felt I could beat them. I am a better fighter now because of the losses. My style, my speed, my boxing technique have all gotten better.

"I have great confidence, I am better because losing makes you hungry and more determined. No one likes to lose, especially a world title fight, but it becomes motivation not to lose again.”

Navarro all but guarantees that he will hold a title in the near future, all he needs is the chance. “I just need the opportunity from a real champion and from HBO or Showtime,” promises the Mexican American star. “I plan to have a belt around my waist. It’s definitely going to happen, I have to win my next fight, and go from there to a world championship.”

Tickets are priced at $550, $450, $250, $125, $95, $45, and $25 for students, seniors, and active military and are on sale now.

Tickets are available at the FedExForum Box Office, All Ticketmaster Outlets, www.ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 901-525-1515.
