Mike Oliver Vs Vernie Torres May 4th

By Boxing Press April 21st, 2007 All Press Releases

Cappiello Promotions President, Rich Cappiello has announced that undefeated USBA super bantamweight champ Mike "Machine" Oliver (18-0, 7 KOs) will take on seasoned veteran Vernie Torres (27-9, 15 KOs) in the main event of Alpha Omega's May 4th"Battle Zone 3" at the Mohegan Sun Arena, in Uncasville, CT. The Oliver-Torres bout, a ten-rounder that will not see Oliver's USBA title at stake, will be televised on the New England Sports Network (NESN).

In his most recent outing (February 16), Oliver earned an extremely close unanimous decision victory over then unbeaten Gary Stark in a Showtime televised main event.

Coincidentally, Stark entered the bout with Oliver fresh off a December 14, 2006 unanimous decision victory over Torres.
Despite losing to Stark, Torres, a former USBA super flyweight champ, will certainly pose a serious threat to Oliver. With 36 professional bouts to his credit, Torres will be the most experienced opponent, thus far, for Oliver.
An opponent has also been named for undefeated heavyweight prospect, Tony "TNT" Grano (8-0-1, 7 KO). Grano, the 2005 United States Amateur Heavyweight Champion, will be taking on Shaker Heights, Ohio's Mujaheed Moore (4-1, 3 KO), in a 6-round undercard attraction.

The bout will represent Grano's fifth time fighting in the Mohegan Sun Arena, where he draws an immense following. Grano is a native of nearby Hebron, Connecticut, though he trains in Brooklyn, NY, with Andre Rozier.
