Heavyweight David Haye Crushes Tomasz Bonin In One

By Boxing Press April 28th, 2007 All Press Releases

WBC number one cruiserweight David Haye served notice to the heavyweight division last night at London's Wembley Arena by knocking out Polish hardman Tomasz Bonin in a single round.

The massively powerful Haye shattered any illusions that the Londoner won't be able to carry his punch up to the heavyweight ranks when he dazed seasoned campaigner Bonin with a jab before finishing off the 231 lb Pole with hammering combinations.

With the WBC ruling that current cruiserweight world champion Jean Marc Mormeck must face Haye next, the 26 year old Frank Maloney promoted "Hayemaker" feels that it is just a matter of time before he stands atop the 200 lb division.

On the undercard, Manchester's Craig Watson got his career back on track with an eight round points decision over the more experienced Robert Lloyd Taylor at welterweight, middleweight Patrick J. Maxwell was held to a draw over six by Yugoslav hardman Gerard Ajetovic, light middle Sam Webb stopped Alexander Spitjo in the first, featherweight Akaash Bhatia outpointed Dai Davies over four rounds, light heavy Tony Salem decisioned John Anthony in four frames with light welter Ruben Giles getting a win over Kristian Laight over the same distance.

The hotly anticipated showdown between British light heavyweight champion Peter Oboh and Tony Oakey was called off when Oboh withdrew an hour before fight time.
