On Wednesday night at Studio Mel's in Montreal, WBC International titlist Adrian "The Shark" Diaconu made short work of Rico Hoye, shattering the former world title challenger in less than three vicious rounds.
Six inches shorter than Hoye at 5 foot 9, Romanian native Diaconu was able to penetrate his opponent's defenses and work his trademark inside game on the much taller American.
By the second round Hoye was unable to withstand the pressure that the Montreal man was bringing and the Detroit based slugger was in deep water after he was belted to the canvas twice in the second by Diaconu.
In the third there was no stopping Diaconu as the 28 year old "Shark" smelled blood and soon Hoye was floored again but this time for good as the increasingly one sided thrashing was called to a halt at 0:32 of the round.
With the dominating win, Diaconu climbs to 24-0 (15), wins a WBC title eliminator and could be soon facing that organization's full champion, "Bad" Chad Dawson.
32 year old Hoye falls to 20-2 (15) two years after getting stopped by Clinton Woods for the vacant IBF title.
