This "Universum Champions Night" is our 250th promotion," said Universum promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl. "How nice it is that it's again in Hamburg. Our first boxing promotion was in 1984 in the Alsterdorfer Sporthalle. Now we are in the Color Line Arena. In the interim, a lot has happened. We not only want to aim high, like we are today in the Elb Panorama 90 meters above Hamburg, but also to present top fights. This card will be very interesting."
Jürgen Brähmer (28-1, 23 KOs), whom Kohl calls "The greatest German boxing talent of all time," has recovered from an injury that forced the postponement of this fight in February and will face former world middleweight champion Hector Javier Velazco (35-5-1, 16 KOs). "Velazco will be a difficult challenge," said Brähmer. "Against the ex-world champion, I will exploit my potential, which is wide open."
Thomas Ulrich (30-3, 20 KOs) will defend his European title against Italian Leonardo Turchi (19-3-3, 6 KOs). "I am in top form," stated Ulrich. "We have worked on and improved my condition a lot in Zinnowitz on the Baltic Sea. I'm glad to box again. I would like to repeat my performance from January (TKO10 Rachid Kanfouah) and confirm my good form. I want to have a great fight."
A third highlight will be a world title fight featuring unbeaten WBO super welterweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (33-0, 21 KOs) making his third title defense against an opponent to be named.
Also European heavyweight champion Vladimir Virchis (22-1, 19 KOs) goes against Paolo Vidoz (23-3, 12 KOs) in a rematch of their war in June 2006, which ended in a Virchis KO win in round six.
In addition, WIBF female super welterweight champion Karolina Lukasik (6-0) from the spotlight boxing Team faces Heidi Hartmann (11-1-1, 7 KOs).
