European Boxing News: Weekend Results, Simone Maludrottu Gives Up Bantam Title

Super middle Jurgen Brahmer outscored Argentinian Hector Velzco after twelve dramatic rounds this past Saturday in Hamburg, Germany. Brahmer was down in the sixth and wobbled in the fourth but was also effective with his southpaw left.

At the end it was scored 115-112 on two cards and 117-111 on the third but it seemed closer than that and the crowd at the Color Line Arena booed the decision. Fact is it could have gone either way and Velazco himself felt he would have been happy with a draw.

Brahmer is a slick boxer with a good punch and a lot of talent but appears to be fragile when under pressure.
WBO Junior Middle titleholder Sergey Dzinziruk put on a boxing clinic against Brazilian Carlos Nascimento and stopped him in the eleventh. Nascimento took a bad beating and could have been rescued earlier.

European Heavyweight king Vladimir Virchis retained the title with a unanimous decision over Italian Paolo Vidoz. It was scored 119-109, 116-112 and 117-111 but again it looked a lot closer but Vidoz was way behind after eight when he finally began to put pressure on his big, hard punching opponent.

European Light Heavy ruler Thomas Ulrich needed just one punch, a right uppercut, to knock out Italian Leonardo Turchi after 2.01 of the first.

Lukas Wilaschek won the vacant International German title with a ten round decision over Ali Yilderim, who had Ralf and Graciano Rocchigiani in the corner. It was scored 97-93, 97-93 and 96-94.

In the walkout bout, Karolina Lukasik retained the WIBF Junior Middle title with a points win over Heidi Hartmann. It was scored 100-89 on all cards. Hartmann was down in the ninth.

In the sole non-title fight on the bill heavyweight Egon Roth outscored Daniel Peret after six but was under pressure in the sixth and final round.

At ringside a fight erupted for reasons unknown involving some security people - not part of the standard security - and some of the staff, including promoter Ahmet Oener, from Arena Box Promotion.

The bodyguards or whatever they were - some very big men who probably wouldn´t pass a doping test anywhere - went totally berserk and one member of the Arena team was badly beaten and cut. The whole thing was filmed and is now a matter for the police.

News: Simone Maludrottu has relinquished the European Bantam title to concentrate on a world title shot.
Maludrottu was to have defended the title in June against Belgian Carmelo Ballone.

European Middle champ Amin Asikainen stopped brave but outgunned Latvian Martins Kukuls in the sixth of a scheduled non-title eight rounder over the weekend in Helskini, Finland. Asikainen won every round and finally dropped Kukuls with a body shot in the sixth and it was stopped.

Asikainen will defend the title June 23 in Zwickau, Germany against Sebastian Sylvester.

Russian junior welter Denis Shafikov outscored Dominican Christian Frias over eight, winning every round.
