European Boxing News: World Champions Mikkel Kessler, Joe Calzaghe, Wladimir Sidorenko

AMI Production have moved their big show in Marseille one day forward and it will now go ahead June 29 instead of June 30. Headlining the show is WBA and EBU Female Junior Welter champ Ann Sophie Mathis who again takes on Miriam Lamare. Those who saw the first fight say it was a war from the first bell with Mathis wearing down Lamare.

In the co-headliner, WBA Bantam ruler Wladimir Sidorenko faces Jerome Arnould. Also on the bill are welter Frederik Klose and middleweight Arsen Khachatrian. By the way, check out amiprod.com (in French only) – the new website from AMI.

Team Palle have announced plans for a show June 15 in Denmark. No details given. As for a possible showdown for WBA and WBC Super Middle king Mikkel Kessler against WBO counterpart Joe Calzaghe, Team Palle writes in a press release that there are still hope, especially since Jermain Taylor appears to have dropped plans to move up to 168. Calzaghe vs Kessler could go ahead September 22 in Manchester.

Baltic Boxing Promotions promotes their second show in Kaliningrad on June 23.

Former Spanish Welter and Junior Welter champ Jose Gonzales Dopico has passed away at the age of 62. Gonzeles challenged European champ Roger Menetrey in 1973 and also fought the likes of Jorgen Hansen, Jean Josselin, Jose Luis Pacheco and Roger Zami.

Correction: contrary to what have been written in the Italian press, Simone Maludrottu is still the European Bantamweight champ.

Middleweight Gennadyi Golovkin, one of the top prospects at 160, have replaced the injured Vitali Tajbert on Spotlight Boxing´s May 25 show in Stuttgart. Golovkin square off against Sergey Khomitskyi.

French paper l´Equipe writes that the WBA eliminator at cruiser between Valery Brudov and Firat Arslan is on for Budapest June 16. Brudov is currently sparring with Kamel Amrane.

Pugnus Boxing Promotion have today (May 22) received permission from the Martial Arts Delegation for their since long announced show in Karlstad, Sweden, September 15. The permission is for the standard Swedish rules, max distance 12 minutes, ten ounce gloves in all fights.
