Risum Boxing’s three Kenyan boxers, Samson Onyango, David Kiilu and James Kimori all scored victories on Saturday May 26 in Nairobi, Kenya, on a show promoted by Ashira Oure Promotions.
For Onyango, it was his first fight in five months, after three cancelled rematches against Kenyan champion Mohammed “Chicken” Orungi.
Onyango instead fought another rematch, stopping Stephen Esonga in three rounds of a scheduled eight. Esonga was aggressive, but “The Hammer” boxed well, avoided most of his foe's punches and countered with jabs and right hands.
In round three, the fight was stopped when Onyango connected with several precise shots and Esonga couldn’t escape the onslaught. The technical knockout brought Onyango’s professional record to 11-1 with eight victories inside schedule. The Hammer is back!
David Kiilu returned after his close loss to Frenchman Cyril Thomas last month, where he came up short after a magnificent performance for the WBF super featherweight crown. Kiilu stopped Kevin Odhiambo in the third round of eight scheduled, and improved to 26-8-2 (14). He is now hoping for another title shot in the near future.
Welterweight hope “Jesse” James Kimori didn’t have an easy time against Andrew Samba, the man who won on points over then Risum Boxing-fighter Athanas Nzau in December 2005. But after four rounds of good action, Kimori won unanimously on points and is now 5-0 (3).
Also on the show, Stanley Katibi beat Joseph Odhiambo unanimously on points after six rounds at light middleweight, and Wandera Ouma stopped Bob Harrison in three at super middleweight.
