Peltz Boxing: Jones vs. Carrasquillo Collide In Philly July 20

By Boxing Press June 6th, 2007 All Press Releases

It may not be for the vacant state welterweight title, but the two hottest 147-pounders in Pennsylvania collide when Mike Jones takes on Doel Carrasquillo over eight rounds, or less, on Friday evening, July 20, at the New Alhambra, Swanson & Ritner Streets, next to Forman Mills, in South Philadelphia. First of seven fights at 7.30 p.m.

Topping the card is a scheduled 12-round contest for the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF) featherweight title, featuring Rogers Mtagwa, of Philadelphia, against Aldo Valtierra, of Mexico City.

Telefutura/Univision will televise the Mtagwa-Valtierra championship fight and the Jones-Carrasquillo match as part of its Solo Boxeo telecast from 8 to 10 p.m. The card is promoted by Don Chargin Productions in association with Peltz Boxing Promotions and Joe Hand Promotions.

Jones, 24, of North Philadelphia, has knocked out all eight of his opponents since turning pro 19 months ago. A 5-foot-11 welterweight, Jones has boxed six times at the New Alhambra, once in Spokane, WA, once in Las Vegas, NV, where he knocked out Gilbert Guevara, of Brownsville, TX, in the first round May 4 at the MGM Grand Casino.

Carrasquillo, 34, of Lancaster, PA, has knocked out seven of his last eight foes, including Aaron Torres, of the Contender reality show, who was stopped in three rounds May 12 at the Host Resort & Hotel in Lancaster. He is a rugged, walk-in styled puncher with fair boxing skills and a lot of power.

For commissioner Greg Sirb to sanction the fight for the vacant state title, it would have to be scheduled for 10 rounds. The Jones camp, aware their man has never gone a full three rounds in any of his eight pro fights, opted for eight rounds this time instead of 10.

Five additional fights complete the program.

Tickets priced at $40, $55 and $65 are on sale at the offices of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Inc. (215-765-0922) or at www.peltzboxing.com.
