British boxing sensation Ricky Hatton and Mexican star Jose Luis Castillo have been on a collision course since January. Catch the Junior Welterweight showdown Saturday, June 23 (10:00 PM ET/7:00 PM PT), live from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Ricky "Hitman" Hatton (42-0, 30 KOs), of Manchester, England, is a big star across the pond who brings a dash of personality and style to the sport. Named the BWAA's 2005 Fighter of the Year, the hard-punching slugger made his Las Vegas debut last January with a convincing win over Juan Urango. Now, he returns to the 140-pound division, considered one of the deepest and most talented in boxing.
Hatton' formidable opponent is two-time lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo (55-7-1, 47 KOs) of Mexicali, Mexico, a respected slugger who brings 17 years of professional ring experience to the bout. The winner of this 12-round showdown will be well-positioned for bragging rights to the top position in the 140-pound division.
HBO2 playdates: June 24 (7:30 a.m., 5:00 p.m.) and 26 (midnight).
