Boxing Info: Martin Power Travels To Fight Jason Booth

By Boxing Press June 26th, 2007 All Press Releases

Along with Wigan continuing in Premiership football next year, the city’s Robin Park Arena now hosts championship boxing for the first time when London based Martin Power defends his British bantamweight title against Jason Booth next month.

Since turning pro in 2001, Power has never fought out of the South East and his only trip away from London was to Portsmouth in 2003 when he defeated Dave Hinds over four rounds.

Not only does Power, 19-2 (8), now have to travel away from his beloved London, but he must take on Jason Booth, 27-4 (10), the former IBO super flyweight, British and Commonwealth flyweight champion who remains unbeaten since his return to the ring last year.

“I was disappointed when Martin pulled out of the last fight,” Booth said in reference to Power’s inability to appear at Crystal Palace last Friday. “But Wigan is nearer Nottingham so at least I will be able to sell more tickets.

“I watched Martin’s last two fights against Tshifhiwa Munyai and I think he is ready for the taking.”

Joint top of the bill is the ever popular Jamie Moore, 27-3 (18), who looks to add another scalp in his quest for a world title when he takes on Vincent Vuma, 22-2 (13), the South African light middleweight champion for the vacant WBC International title.

This will be Jamie’s third fight of 2007 and the father of two already has a fight against Andrew Facey pencilled in for October. Moore knows that world champions cannot ignore him if he stays fit and keeps on winning.

The high class support card includes a showdown between welterweight southpaws Craig Watson, 8-1 (2), of Manchester against London based Michael Lomax,10-0-1 (2).

Also on the bill are Commonwealth Welterweight Champion Ali Nuumbembe, 17-2-1 (6), in a non-title appearance, welter Marc Thompson, 11-0 (6), light middle Brett Flournoy, 4-0 (1), middleweight Alex Matvienko, 7-0-1 (2), and super bantam Stuart McFadyen, 5-0 (1).

Frank Maloney Promotions presents “One Moore Step, at the Robin Park Arena, , England on July 6, 2007. Tickets are priced at £70 and £35 and are available by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0871 226 1508. The fight is also televised live on Sky TV.
