Former World Boxing Council welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir weighed 166 1/2 pounds Thursday for his WBC-mandated weigh-in 30 days prior to meeting another ex-WBC 147-pound champ, Vernon Forrest, July 28 in Tacoma, Wash., for the WBC super welterweight interim title.
Baldomir had to weigh no more than 169 pounds or 10 percent over the 154-pound super welterweight limit to be in compliance with WBC rules and regulations.
Baldomir, who is promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions, is training at the new Sycuan Ringside Promotions gym, a state-of-the-art boxing facility in El Cajon , Calif.
“I feel better 30 days before this fight against Forrest than I did when I was 30 days out preparing for (Floyd) Mayweather (Jr.),” said Baldomir.
Baldomir, who has a record of 43-10-6 with 13 knockouts, won the WBC welterweight championship during January of 2006 by decisioning Zab Judah in New York City . B
aldomir then defended successfully by stopping Arturo Gatti during July of 2006 in Atlantic City , N.J. , before being dethroned by undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. during November of 2006 in Las Vegas .
The 12-round bout against Forrest will be televised by HBO.
