Las Vegas Sportsbooks Favour Margarito over Williams

By Boxing Press July 12th, 2007 All Press Releases

In what amounts to a pick ’em fight, Las Vegas sports books list World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Antonio Margarito as slightly more than a 6/5 favorite to defeat unbeaten, No. 1 ranked Paul Williams this Saturday, July 14, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

Margarito is a minus 125 favorite in some desert community sports books, meaning if you like the defending champion, you bet $125 to win $100. If you think Williams will triumph, you bet $100 to win $105.

Margarito (34-4, 1 NC, 24 KOs) risks his WBO belt against Williams (32-0, 24 KOs) in the main event of a stellar fight card Saturday presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions.

“The winner of this fight is the preeminent welterweight in the world -- and that includes (Miguel) Cotto or anyone else in the 147-pound division,’’ the event’s promoter, Dan Goossen, said.

Aptly billed as “Pride “N Punishment,” a program that will start at 5:30 p.m. PT will include bouts featuring undefeated heavyweight Cristobal Arreola (20-0, 18 KOs) and unbeaten super middleweight and 2004 U.S. Olympic Games Gold Medalist Andre Ward (12-0, 7 KOs).

The WBO world title fight will start at approximately 7:45 p.m. PT and doors to the stadium will open at 5 p.m.

Tickets are available for as low as $25, with VIP floor seats priced at $300. Other tickets in the bowl are priced at $50, $75 and $150 and are on sale at TicketMaster outlets and online at www.Ticketmaster.com, as well as The Home Depot Center Box Office (open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.), and Saturday (day of event) beginning at 10 a.m.). Group tickets are available online at www.aegtickets.com or by calling 1-877-AEG-TICKETS.
