British Champ Napa Set For Haskins Clash

By Boxing Press August 31st, 2007 All Press Releases

Frank Maloney returns for the new boxing season with a smashing bill at London's famed York Hall on Friday, September 21, 2007.

The East End's celebrated bantamweight Ian Napa headlines the show with a British title defense in what is sure to be a thrilling contest between two razor sharp fighters.

Napa, 14-6 (0), is coming off a masterful British title win over Jason Booth less than two months ago but "The Hackney Slasher" must turn back the hopes of Bristol's reigning Commonwealth flyweight champion Lee Haskins if he is to capitalize on his intention of once again contending for the European title.

Hard punching West Country man Haskins, 16-1 (9), brings a hands down southpaw style to the clash and has vowed to finish off Napa in an explosive manner that will leave no doubt as to who is the best bantamweight in Britain.

In the main support bout, Nottingham's Jason Booth, 27-5 (10), begins his post-Napa fight comeback with a challenge to Doncaster's English bantamweight title holder, Jamie McDonnel, 7-0 (2).

Booth is bent on gaining revenge upon Napa but cannot take lightly the unbeaten 21 year old dynamo McDonnel, who has stopped his last two opponents.

Light Middle Gary "Hot Stuff" Woolcombe, 23-1 (8), of London is scheduled for an eight round match against durable Doncaster man Jason "The Rocket" Rushton, 17-3 (3), as the 25 year old renews his drive to once again contend for the English belt.

Also on tap is a sizzling North vs. South showdown between unbeaten lightweights Danny Harding, 6-0 (0), of Manchester and London's Lee Cook, 9-0-1(3).

Rounding out the card are light middle Sam Webb of Chislehurst, Harrow featherweight Akaash Bhatia, the London trio of super feather Ian Wilson, light heavy Tony Salem and super middle Dwayne Lewis as well as Ramsgate welter Scott Woolford.

Frank Maloney Promotions presents "Boxing Is Coming Home", headlined by Ian Napa vs. Lee Haskins for the Bantamweight Championship of Britain, at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, England on Friday, September 21, 2007.

Tickets are £75 ringside and £45 general admission and can be purchased by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0871 226 1508. Doors open at 6:45PM

Sky Sports will televise the main bouts live on SS1 starting at 22:00 GMT.
