Boxing In Australia: Dawson, Ammann Victorious In New South Wales

By Bruce Dingo September 1st, 2007 All Boxing Results

It was an eventful Friday night in the Sydney area boxing scene with light middle Daniel "The Rock" Dawson and cruiserweight Daniel Ammann bringing home the victories on two seperate fight cards.

At the Croatian Club in Sydney, Dawson, 29-0 (20), retained his PABA title with a devastating first round KO over Sydney based Russian southpaw Anton Solopov, 16-2-1 (12).

The Kostya Tszyu managed Solopov never had a chance as the Perth based Dawson unloaded a perfect right hand that had Solopov on the floor and unable to continue at 1:45 of the first round.

Dawson's win comes in the backyard of fellow unbeaten light middle prospect Daniel Geale, 16-0 (11), of Sydney and the two could be heading for a big domestic showdown should Geale win his upcoming bout in October.

On another card at the Panthers Club in Newcastle, Daniel "The Doberman" Ammann, 11-1-1 (2), retained his Australian Cruiserweight title for the third time with a wide ten round decision over Wagga Wagga's Anthony McCracken, 7-2 (3).

The southpaw style of Ammann of Stockton proved too difficult for McCracken to overcome and the challenger had to climb off the canvas in the tenth and final round in order to finish the fight, which Ammann was judged to have won 99-90 and 98-91 (twice).

Ammann could challenge OPBF titlist Dominic "The Dominator" Vea, who he has already beaten for the Australian title by majority decision in November of last year.
