Boxing In Argentina: Resultados Del Fin de Semana

By Alejandro Tostado September 2nd, 2007 All Boxing Results

There were two good cards in Argentina over the weekend with Saturday's bill in Buenos Aires leading the way where southpaw light welter sensation Cesar Rene Cuenca remained undefeated .

26 year old Cuenca improved to 30-0 (1) with a clear cut ten round decision over Centenario based journeyman Juan Alberto Godoy, 19-10-1 (7), via scores of 100-91, 100-92 and 99-92 in a rematch to the pair's bout three years ago.

Godoy brought a lot of experience into the ring having faced such luminaries as Andreas Kotelnik, Mohamad Abdulaev, Victor Hugo Castro and was coming off a failed bid to take the South American Light Welter title from Carlos Wilfredo Vilches back in June.

While the 27 "Maravilla" only lost to Cuenca by a few rounds three years ago, last night Godoy was simply outclassed by the slick Barrio Santa Brigida man

Cuenca holds a win over Vilches from two years ago and after having clearly demonstrating his worth at the domestic level, the 26 year old southpaw must now take the big step outside of Argentina or against international level competition if he is to continue his career in a meaningful way.

In a featherweight bout on the undercard, Fernando David Saucedo, 29-4-3 (1), enjoyed his fourteenth bout without a loss since dropping a decision to Acelino Freitas in 2004, by posting a six round win over Marcelo Antonio Gomez, 8-18-3 (3).

In other action on Saturday, South American Super Feather titlist Roberto David Arrieta, 25-12-4 (9), of Santa Rose, won his third bout in a row by knockout by finishing Chilean veteran Hardy Paredes, 11-5 (6), in the eighth round in La Pampa.

In Friday action at Club Atlanta in Buenos Aires, southpaw lightweight Matias Daniel Ferreyra, 17-1 (6), won a competitive six round decision over Eduard Daniel Ramos, 4-6-2 (1).
