Junior Witter has had a vote of confidence from his local MP ahead of his WBC Light-Welterweight Title defence against Vivian Harris at The Dome at Doncaster Lakeside on Friday, 7th September.
The Bradford-born boxer makes his second defence of the most respected world title against mandatory challenger Harris (New York/Guyana) on the Hennessy Sports show which will be televised live by Sky Sports.
Gerry Sutcliffe is MP for Bradford South and will be there on the night cheering on one of his constituents, Witter.
"I'm pleased to be there to support Junior on his big night," said MP Gerry Sutcliffe, who is also a Minister in the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
"He has done Bradford and Britain proud by winning the world title and hopefully he will still be world champion after Friday night."
Former European, British and Commonwealth champion Witter sees this fight as deciding who is the best in his division and a stepping stone to bigger fights.
"He is the best opponent out there, better than the other world champions, so it's a tough, tough fight," said Junior.
"I've just got to do a job that I know I can and will do to move on to bigger things, but right now I'm just focusing on Harris.
"I've had to fight all over the country but this is great for my fans in Yorkshire. It's easy for them to get there from Sheffield, Bradford and Doncaster of course, so hopefully the noise from my fans will help keep the title in Yorkshire on September 7.
"He's been abroad and done it before so I don't think he will be too bothered about coming over here to fight me, but I will be able to feed off the positive atmosphere.
"We are both boxers, not brawlers, so it will be technical but I think my speed will win on the night."
The Hennessy Sports show in association with title partners GoldenPalace.com will be screened live on Sky Sports and also features the English Super-Flyweight Title fight between Robert Nelson and Andy Bell in an all-Yorkshire encounter. Also in action is top domestic lightweight Lee Meager, who meets Hungarian Laszlo Komjathi in an international ten round contest.
