Boxing Press Conference: Don King And Julio Diaz

By Boxing Press September 14th, 2007 All Press Releases

One of the most exciting prizefighters in boxing, undefeated World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) Lightweight Champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, and Sycuan Ringside Promotions’ reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight Champion Julio “The Kidd” Diaz will meet in a compelling lightweight world-title unification match at Chicagoland’s new Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill., on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Don King and Julio Diaz, along with Sycuan Ringside Promotions’ President Glenn Quiroga, Executive Vice President Willie Tucker and Vice President Scott Woodworth were present at yesterday's press conference at The U.S. Grant Hotel in San Diego, Calif.

DON KING:

“In the kick-off press conference a few weeks ago, Juan Diaz said that “The only way I am going to lose this fight is if you carry my out in a stretcher,’ and Julio Diaz said “Well, I guess I have to bring a stretcher.’ That quote alone says this fight is going to be fantastic. These fighters are going to leave it all out there.”

“Both of these fighters are in it to win it. I can tell Julio Diaz wants to win just by looking at him. The vibrations that emanate from the earth and the sky will be with us on Oct. 13 when these two fighters collide. If you want to see fireworks, watch this fight.”

“It’s been great working with Sycuan on this fight. It’s going to be a thriller of a fight. I’ve known Scott Woodworth (Sycuan Ringside Promotions vice president) for a long time, and he knows how to put on a great fight.”

“It is great that Sycuan started a boxing promotional company. It is good for the sport, it is good for the country and it is good for Native American tribes.”

JULIO DIAZ:

“Juan (Diaz) said in a previous press conference that boxing is like a hobby to him. He has school and other things to fall back on. I have hobbies too, like going fishing and playing golf. Boxing, however, is my love and passion. I’m fighting for my family, and you guys will be able to see that love and passion in the later rounds when the fight gets tough. Anytime I am up against the wall, I just think about my family and my intensity rises. I’m confident I’ll be standing in the end.”

“I really appreciate all the attention that this fight has received. Sometimes fights don’t get the attention they deserve, but this particular fight has everyone buzzing for good reason. Juan is a great fighter and a tough challenge, but no one can match my resolve when I get inside the ring.”

“Sycuan Ringside Promotions put together a great team for this fight. I’ve been training for two weeks here at the Sycuan Boxing Facility in San Diego. I’m focused and ready to defend my title and add a few more belts to my resume.”

Tickets priced at $300, $150, $100, $75 and $35 are on sale at the Sears Centre Box Office, select AMCORE Bank Outlets, by phone at 1-888-SEARSTIX, or on-line at www.searscentre.com.
