On a Matchroom Promotion on Friday night at the Ice Rink in Kircaldy, Scotland, British Welterweight Champion Kevin Anderson turned back the hopes of "Fearless" Francis Jones with a dramatic 12th and final round stoppage.
The challenger entered the bout on the strength of a fifth round KO of former big punching former British Champ Neil Sinclair in June but ran into a far more energetic opponent in the form of current titlist Anderson.
The man from Buckhaven, Scotland put to rest any ambitions that Jones may have initially had by attacking the challenger with a startling bombardment from the opening bell.
Anderson had previously handled former Commonwealth Light Welter hardman Eamonn Magee in May and the experience had definitely benefited the 24 year old as he tested the toughness of Jones with a buzzsaw approach that the challenger could only hope to fight in spots against.
Although Jones was on the defensive for most of the contest, the big hearted man from Darlington man refused to give in and caught Anderson hard on several occasions with bracing hooks to the head when the champion left openings due to the sheer volume of his bombardment.
Hoping that Anderson was spent by the tenth frame, Jones mounted a sustained offensive campaign that was producing good results until a hard counter right from the champion that floored the challenger near the end of the round.
Anderson put the finishing touches on a good night's work with a twelfth round shelling that had Jones at a loss and prompted a referee stoppage to end the punishment.
With the win, Anderson runs his record to 20-1 (12), and gets closer to a hoped for European title shot against hammer fisted reigning champion, Belgium based Ghanaian Jackson "Sugar The Ball Brains" Osei Bonsu.
