WBC Lightweight World Champion David Diaz will be honored this Sunday afternoon, September 23rd with the 2007 Chicago Fire Hispanic Hero Award at Toyota Park.

A special ceremony honoring Diaz’s win over three division world champion Erik Morales will take place at half-time of the Chicago Fire MLS match against D.C. United. Diaz successfully defended his world title with an outstanding win over Morales on August 4 at the Allstate Arena.

Said Diaz, “I’m thrilled to be chosen by the Chicago Fire for this award. The organization has been very supportive of me throughout my career and I look forward to watching my friends on the team this Sunday.”

About his current status, Diaz said, “Just staying in shape and enjoying the summer with my family and the other Chicago sport teams. The Cubs are winning the championship rounds and are trying to make the playoffs and the Bears have a huge game on Sunday night. But don’t worry, I’ll be focused and ready when its time to get back in the ring to defend my title.”
