Cerveza Tecate, one of Mexico’s leading beer brands, today announced its primary sponsorship of the October 6 rematch between Philippine boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao and Mexico’s WBC Super Featherweight Champion, Marco Antonio Barrera, in Las Vegas.

Four years after their first encounter, Manny “Pac Man Destroyer” Pacquiao and Marco Antonio “Baby Face Assassin” Barrera, will face-off once again to determine who reigns as the WBC Super Featherweight champion.

To leverage its involvement in this event and relationship with Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), Tecate launched several initiatives on September 16 in support of the fight: local radio media promotions to create awareness for Tecate; a local retail program offering Las Vegas consumers, age 21 or older, a chance to win two tickets to the bout; and on-site promotions with the famous Chicas Tecate.

“Being able to support the Barrera vs. Pacquiao fight through an integrated campaign is the most exciting way for Tecate to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month,” said Carlos Boughton, brand manager for Tecate.

“We recognize how boxing is growing in popularity among Hispanics, and believe the October 6 fight will solidify Tecate’s presence as a major sponsor of the sport. We look forward to collaborating with Golden Boy Promotions on additional upcoming events.”

Live from Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Event Center, Pacquiao will take on Barrera in 12 action-packed rounds that promise to be an historic display of athleticism. Considered by many as one of the most exciting pound-for-pound fighters in the world, Pacquiao will take on Barrera in front of a live audience of more than 12,000, as well as 400,000 households via HBO pay-per-view.

Tecate’s involvement with GBP is part of the brand’s overarching boxing platform, which includes sponsorships of “Boxeo en esta Esquina,” “Lo Mejor de Boxeo en Esta Esquina” and the title sponsorship of “Solo Boxeo Tecate,” three popular boxing programs on Telefutura and Galavision. During these events, Tecate receives significant brand exposure in the ring and throughout the arena with logo placements, banners and on-air mentions.
