Scott Lawton Gets Commonwealth Shot Against Amir Khan

By Boxing Press September 26th, 2007 All Press Releases

When Scott Lawton enters the ring on 6th October he will be contesting the Commonwealth title currently held by Amir Khan. The British Boxing Board of Control have confirmed in writing to Impact Boxing that all obstacles to Khan putting the belt on the line had been removed and that the two men were now free to contest the prestigious title.

If victorious, Lawton will become the first North Staffordshire boxer to win the title since Tommy Harrison captured the British Empire bantamweight title in 1922. Incidentally, Harrison and Lawton are distantly related.

On hearing the news Lawton said: “This is a big enough fight anyway and I was happy to fight Amir without his title being on the line but now the Commonwealth title is up for grabs it’s the icing on the cake.”

“Of course I would love to be the first man from Stoke to bring a major title back to Stoke for 85 years but I’m sure that Amir Khan is as determined as I am. All I can say is that I am ready for the challenge and that I will do everything that I can to beat him. Whatever happens it’s going to be a great fight.”

Mick Carney of Impact Boxing added: “The support that Scott has received locally has been phenomenal and the demand for tickets has far exceeded our expectations. Scott has always been well supported but on the 6th he will get a great boost from the more than a thousand fans who will be there cheering him on.”

“Scott’s preparation has gone very well and he is totally focused. We won’t be going to Nottingham to make up the numbers, we are going there to win!”

Tickets for the event are still available from Impact Boxing on 0770 944 9279 or by visiting www.impactboxing.com
