Winner of Thaxton-Stewart to be Commonwealth mandatory challenger

By Boxing Press October 5th, 2007 All Press Releases

The winner of British lightweight champion Jon Thaxton against Dave Stewart will be made mandatory challenger for the Commonwealth Lightweight Title, held by Amir Khan.

Thaxton makes the second defence of his British Title against Scotsman Dave Stewart at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, on Friday, 5th October on a Hennessy Sports show in association with title partners GoldenPalace.net. Sky Sports will televise.

"We have had this fight made as a final eliminator for the Commonwealth title," said promoter Mick Hennessy. "Dave has already fought and won an eliminator for the Commonwealth title."

"There will be no excuses for Amir now, he will have to put up or shut up," said Thaxton, the British champion.

Middleweight Darren Barker, the 2002 Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist, returns to action after a break and is part of quality undercard that also features the professional debut of Daniel Herdman, of Stevenage, at light-middleweight.
