Zahir Raheem wants crowned in 2008

By Boxing Press October 9th, 2007 All Press Releases

Just over two years ago, former United States Olympian Zahir Raheem had reignited a stagnant career with a solid win over world champion, and future hall of famer, Eric Morales. According to Zahir, the date of September 10, 2005 will go down as both his best day, and his worst.

Since the win over Morales his career once again became stagnant. Zahir has stepped through the ropes just three times since that fight, losing a lackluster decision to Acelino "Popo" Freitas in a bid for the WBO world lightweight title, and a workmanlike win over veteran Cristobal Cruz this past May.

"Most of his problems following the Morales win have been a lack of action," said Attorney Stuart Campbell. "His last 3 years have been marred by contract disputes and being shelved by his promoter. He is hoping to put all that behind him and win a world championship in 2008."

Raheem's promotional contract with Top Rank expires on November 2nd.

"Zahir is currently reviewing his options and is looking forward to winning his world championship," said Campbell.

Raheem, a member of the 1994 U.S. Olympic team, is a former NABA featherweight champion and WBC International lightweight champion. He is currently ranked in the top ten by the WBO, IBF and the WBA. He has a professional record of 28-2, 16 KO's.
