On Matchroom promotion last night at the Leisure Centre in Peterlee, England, super bantam Anyetei "The Chameleon" Laryea, 17-3 (8), of Ghana upset reigning Commonwealth Champion Isaac Ward, 15-2-2 (2), who was not let out for the fifth round by his corner.
Ward came out the aggressor, but by the second round it was clear that he was no match for the hard punching African visitor.
Laryea steadily wore the champion down with bracing combinations but it was sickening body work by the challenger in the third and fourth that dropped Ward and ultimately prevented him from answering the bell for what would have been the fifth frame.
In other action, Rendall Munroe, 13-1 (6), won the vacant English Super Bantam title by outclassing ex-champion Marc Callaghan, 19-12-1 (4), via sixth round stoppage.
Marcus Portman, 18-5-1 (3), won his sixth bout on the bounce by defeating Jozsef Matolcsi, 26-11 (18), for the second straight time to defend his WBF Light Middle belt.
