European Boxing News: Beyer, Brahmer, Gomez, McCall, Stieglitz

By Boxing Press October 15th, 2007 All Press Releases

Former WBC super middle champ Markus Beyer wants to come back this fall or early winter but have been told by his manager Wilfried Sauerland that the three remaining shows for 2007 are fully booked, writes German news agency sid.

As the story continues, it appears that Beyer´s contract is up for renewal at the end of 2007. Sauerland is not against Beyer coming back but wants the terms re-negotiated. A German showdown against Jurgen Brahmer could be in the cards. Beyer has been inactive - mainly due to a hand injury - since losing the title to Mikkel Kessler in the fall of 2006.

Juan Carlos Gomez was a judge for a beauty contest while the reigning WBC International heavy champ Oliver McCall went to church - that´s how the two main eventers for Arena´s big show in Berlin on October 19 spent their weekend. Fair enough, Gomez´s appointment as a judge was a part of the promotion for the show.

Super middle Robert Stieglitz continued his way back with a ten round unanimous decision over William Gare on SES´ promotion in Magdeburg Saturday night. On the undercard, welter Jan Zaveck outscored Albert Starikov in a International German title fight while female junior welter Ramona Kuhne won the WIBF interim crown with a points victory over Loli Munoz.

Tobiga Loriga and Marcelo Saucedo clash for the IBF International junior middle title on October 26 in Rome, Italy.

In Berne, Switzerland, welter Riad Menasria lost to Romanian Gheorghe Danut in a big upset on October 13. Menasria was 27-0-1 going into the fight while Danut was 4-7-3.

Italian junior middle Sven Paris fights in Italy on November 27 after a brief stint in the US. Paris is featured on the undercard to Italian lightweight title fight between Giovanni Niro and Massimiliano Chiofalo.
