Irish Boxing: Duddy, Macklin And Hatton Tonight In Dublin

By Danny Wilson October 20th, 2007 All Boxing Previews

Brian Peters puts on a superb bill tonight at National Stadium in Dublin with two middleweights possibly heading for a massive showdown leading the way.

Continuing his triumphant return home after a solid career start in America, John Duddy, 21-0 (16), faces a towering 19 year old, 6 foot 3 inch middleweight from Droylesden, England named Prince Arron, 10-2 (0), over ten rounds.

Arron has been in with Commonwealth title challenger Anthony Small, Danny Reynolds and Cello Renda but will likely be unable to deal with the pressure brought on by the far more experienced Duddy.

It's been whispered that Duddy will challenge newly minted world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik in the near future but he'll likely be embroiled in a domestic dust-up first with Birmingham starlet Matthew Macklin.

Coached by one of the top trainers in the world, Billy Graham, Macklin, 19-2 (15), has won two bouts in a row by knockout since coming off a thrilling loss to British Light Middle Champion Jamie Moore in a torrid display of heart a year ago.

The 25 year old faces former Italian Light Middle kingpin Alessio Furlan, 19-9-5 (8), who was stopped by Duddy in the tenth in July, over ten frames.

Another one of Billy Graham's charges is on the bill, IBF Intercontinental Welterweight Champion Matthew Hatton, 31-3-1 (12), who is coming off two high profile wins in Las Vegas, on big brother Ricky's undercards.

The sharp punching Hatton will keep busy for another Las Vegas date in December with a scheduled eight round contest with durable Finnish stylist Samuli Leppiaho, 9-4-1 (1).

Also on the bill are promising Ulster light welters Paul McCloskey and Stephen Haughian.
