A super middleweight title fight is scheduled from across the pond when Joe Calzaghe vs. Mikkel Kessler is seen live Saturday, November 3 at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT, from Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on HBO. The World Championship Boxing team will be ringside for the event, which will be presented in HD-TV and in Spanish language on HBO Latino.
As boxing's current longest-reigning world champion, undefeated super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe (43-0, 32 KOs) from Newbridge, Wales collides with fellow belt-holder Mikkel Kessler (39-0, 29 KOs) from Copenhagen, Denmark in a scheduled 12-round unification bout that has the boxing world buzzing.
Calzaghe, known as "The Pride of Wales", is coming off a dominating performance when he stopped contender Peter Manfredo Jr. in the third round during their April 2007 fight that was seen live on HBO. With 35,000 fans in attendance, the Calzaghe-Manfredo fight shattered the indoor European record for a boxing event.
Millennium Stadium will be scaled for 60,000-plus spectators when Calzaghe, 35, makes his landmark 21st consecutive title defense against the imposing Kessler in their autumn showdown.
Calzaghe's opponent in the championship fight is fellow undefeated boxer Mikkel Kessler who is known as the "Viking Warrior" around the boxing world for the way he steamrolls and plunders his divisional opponents.
Kessler, 28, captured his super middleweight title in 2004 by taking apart defending champion Manny Siaca and has since successfully defended his title four times. This marks his second appearance on HBO.
