Cerveza Tecate Signs On As Secondary Sponsor For Cotto vs. Mosley

By Boxing Press November 8th, 2007 All Press Releases

Cerveza Tecate, one of Mexico's leading beer brands, continues to demonstrate its commitment to boxing by announcing its participation as a secondary sponsor of the Nov. 10 match between WBA World Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto and four-time World Champion Sugar Shane Mosley.

The event, scheduled to take place in New York's Madison Square Garden, will feature the undefeated Cotto as he faces legendary Mosley, for the first time, to defend his World Welterweight Champion title.

"Although Tecate was only scheduled to support four Golden Boy Promotions events in 2007, the impact boxing has among Hispanic adults justified our sponsorship of two additional bouts including Cotto vs. Mosley," said Carlos Boughton, brand manager for Tecate. "We are excited to lend our marketing and promotional support to this event and offer Latino boxing fans on the East Coast an opportunity to be a part of the excitement."

As with previous boxing events, Tecate is committed to increasing awareness of the bout through various marketing efforts. This includes a $20 mail-in rebate offer for those who purchase the fight on Pay-Per-View, as well as eight viewing parties at various locations throughout the metropolitan New York area.

Tecate will also be present at Madison Square Garden with two sampling teams and giveaways that will add to the excitement of the night for adults 21 and older. The brand will be exposed to more than 20,000 spectators in attendance; while 400,000 boxing fans watch in anticipation to see who is crowned the WBA World Welterweight Champion through pay-per-view.

In addition to Tecate's existing relationship with Golden Boy Promotions, the brand has been involved in the sport as the title sponsor of 41 "Solo Boxeo Tecate" weekly programs on Telefutura.

The boxing show takes place in major markets such as California, Texas, Illinois, Arizona, Pennsylvania and New Mexico. Tecateʼs significant brand exposure in the ring, throughout the arena, and mentioned on banners and broadcast, has positioned the Mexican cerveza as an unyielding supporter of the biggest matches in professional boxing.
