Newly crowned IBF World Super Middleweight champion Lucian Bute, 21-0-0 (17), will defend his title for the first time in his home ring at the Montreal Bell Centre on Friday, February 29, 2008.
The February 29 date will permit Lucian to make the first voluntary defense of his title as a recognized world champion.
"It was very important for me to be able to defend my title for the first time in front of my fans at the Montreal Bell Centre," stated Bute.
"I am very proud to be a World champion, and I truly appreciate all the support I receive from everyone in this great Province. I want to show my appreciation by giving them a great performance on February 29.".
Lucian has now captured one of the four major belts that all super middleweight boxers dream to win. Evidently, the next few fights will be very important for Lucian’s development as the ultimate goal may come to fruition in 2008 and Lucian’s progression must be up for the task.
Tomorrow, in Quebec City, Lucian is invited to the National Assembly to be honored for his success.
Afterwards, Lucian will fly to Romania in order to celebrate with his family and with the entire Romanian community.
The newly crowned World champion will be back in the gym training in early December. Tickets go on sale as of December. More information will be available in the coming weeks.
