Buckley and Goodwin to Box in Stoke Again

By Boxing Press November 12th, 2007 All Press Releases

The talented Chester duo of Kevin Buckley and Chris Goodwin will take to the ring again when they turn out at Stoke’s Kings Hall on 17th November. Both men will be looking to continue the winning starts that they have made to their fledgling careers.

Buckley who has emerged victorious from each of his first three professional starts will face Rotherham’s Jon Baguley in a four round super-featherweight contest. Baguley comes from the famous Ingles stable in Sheffield and is likely therefore to prove a handful for the gifted Chester man. Baguley comes with a tally of W 5 (KO 2) L 7 D 0 and will be seeking to return to winning ways after suffering three successive defeats.

Switch-hitting welterweight Goodwin faces Amir Nadi who originally hails from Kirkuk in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Goodwin was narrowly defeated in his pro debut but has won both of his contests since; Nadi has so far failed to register a win in seven bouts loosing each of his previous contests on points.

“I’m enjoying the sport at the moment and the success that I’ve had so far,” said Buckley. “I received a lot of praise after I beat Tony McQuade on a Sky televised show last time out and although I was very pleased with my performance I’m not letting it go to my head. I’m still new to the professional code and I know that I’ve still got a lot to learn. If I can maintain my current form for another couple of years then maybe I can look towards challenging for honours but it’s far too early yet.”

“Jon Baguley is a good boxer and I won’t be taking anything for granted; he’s trained by the Ingles so he’ll be coming to win. I know that I’m going to have to be at my best to get past him so people can expect to see another good performance from me.”

“Like Kevin I’m still learning the game,” said Goodwin “and I’m not ready to make any predictions about my career yet. I know that I’ve got a style that pleases the fans but that doesn’t win fights on its own. Nothing feels better than winning though and I intend to keep my winning streak going for as long as I can. I’ve won my last two in Stoke so I’m looking forward to going there again; you get a great reception from the fans there and they produce a fantastic atmosphere.”

“Looking at Nadi’s record I should be going in as the favourite but you can’t take anything as a given in boxing and I am confident that he will be just as determined as I am to win. At this stage of my career it’s another learning fight but I intend to win.”

Tickets for the Impact Boxing promoted event are priced £25 and £45 for ringside seats. Concessionary prices of £10 are also being offered to under 14’s and tickets together with coach travel are available on 01244 342012. Further details are available at www.impactboxing.com
