Undefeated junior welterweight Rita “La Guera” Figueroa will return to the ring this Friday night, November 16 at Cicero Stadium as part of "Latin Thunder", an evening of world class professional boxing presented by Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions.
Back in business after a one year layoff due to rotator cuff surgery on her left arm, Figueroa discussed her return to the ring this Friday night.
“The support from the fans during my time off has been terrific. I’m really looking forward to getting in the ring on Friday and putting on a great performance. I’ve been sparring hard the last few weeks in preparation and the arm feels 100% ready.”
About her last bout against against Mary McGee in which was stopped in the fourth round a year ago on cuts, Rita stated, “If it means something in the future I’d love to fight her again and settle things, but it won’t happen in Indiana.”
Currently ranked #7 in the world by the WBC, the Chicago fan favorite Figeuroa sports an unblemished record of 9-0 with three knockouts. Her six round bout on the "Latin Thunder" card will be against tough veteran Danielle Christiansen of Fresno, California.
Said promoter Dominic Pesoli, “Rita’s as tough as they come, she’s been involved in terrific battles and our fans truly respect the warrior she is. We’re very happy to have her back on Friday night.”
The full "Latin Thunder" card is
David Lopez vs. Darryl Salmon, ten rounds, middleweight
Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Jose Angel Berenza, ten rounds, super bantamweights
Andrzej Fonfara vs. Dave Saunders, six rounds, junior middleweights
Rita Figueroa vs. Danielle Christensen, six rounds, junior welterweights
