Boxing Weigh-In: Woolcombe vs. Portman

Yesterday afternoon, Frank Maloney Promotions held the weigh-in for their big show taking place tonight Saturday, December 8 at Robin Park Centre in Wigan, England.

The event drew a selection of local fight figures as well as the camps of the eight combatants who will participate in the four title fights on the bill.

Gary Woolcombe scaled 153 lb (10st 13) while Marcus Portman weighed 152 lb 5 ounces (10st 12 and 5 ounces) as they prepare to decide just who will walk out with the vacant British Light Middleweight title.

Doncaster youngster Jamie McDonnel tipped the scale at 114 lb even (8st 2 lb) ) as did seasoned opponent Chris Edwards as they ready to argue the vacant British Super Flyweight strap.

Namibian born, Glossop residing Ali Nuumbembe registered 146 lb 5 ounces (10st 6 and 5 ounces) as did Manchester based southpaw Craig Watson, who will try to lift Nuumbembe's Commonwealth crown.

British, Commonwealth and IBO past master Jason Booth came in at 116 lb 14 ounces (8st 4 and 14 ounces) while foe Matt Edmonds weighed 117 lb 6 ounces (8st 5 and 6 ounces) as they look forward to hostilities for the vacant Commonwealth Bantam belt.

Also making appearances were WBU Welterweight supremo Michael Jennings and Manchester area stablemates Thomas McDonagh, Matthew Hall, both light middleweights.

Another light middle, Sam Webb, made the trip from London to support stablemate Gary Woolcombe.

The Doncaster crew was out in force as promoter/manager/trainer John Rushton kept an eye on pupils Jamie McDonnel and son Jason Rushton, who is alos appearing on the bill.

Ali Nummbembe trainer Bob Shannon was seen fraternizing with Jason Booth trainer and Frank Maloney Promotions matchmaker Jimmy Tibbs.

Sky Sports was filming the event and the ever professional team of Adam Smith and Glenn McCrory were on hand to provide commentary on the proceedings.

All in all a well run event that saw the main event fighters weighing all successfully on the first try while the undercard lads will weigh-in later today.
