After the biggest year of his young career, highly-touted middleweight prospect “Mean” Joe Greene will look to finish up 2007 with another victory when he takes on veteran Patrick Thompson at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on Thursday night.
“Joe has been spectacular in 2007, and I think this fight will be a good way to end the year with a bang and make a statement to the rest of the middleweight division that Joe Greene is ready, willing, and able to take on the best 160-pounders in the world in 2008,” said Leon Margules, Executive Director of Seminole Warriors Boxing, Greene’s promoter.
Unbeaten in 16 fights with 12 of those victories coming by knockout, the Brooklyn-born Greene has scored three big wins in 2007, knocking out Pat Coleman and Darryl Salmon in the first round, and nearly shutting out 43 fight veteran Jose Spearman over eight rounds.
With the bout against Thompson – who has faced the likes of Sechew Powell, John Duddy, and Giovanni Lorenzo – the 21-year old Greene will be returning to the New York area to fight for the first time since February, and he is eager to give his hometown fans an early Holiday gift on Thursday.
