John Thaxton would just like to make it clear that tomorrow’s purse bid has now been made for both the British and Commonwealth titles.
John goes on to explain:
“Where I’m British Champion, I’m also mandatory for Khan’s Commonwealth title, so the board and commonwealth council have been really fare and made this a 50/50 split with both titles on the line. If Khan bottles it and pulls out of this purse bid and still continues to fight on February 2 then not only will he lose his right to fight for the prestigious British Title, he should definitely be stripped of his Commonwealth Title”
“I believe that the recent major upsurge in British boxing is down to British boxers, fighting for traditional belts like the British and Commonwealth titles. I hope Khan does not do these titles a disservice and start fighting for interalphabetty titles. After calling me out and disrespecting me I believe Amir and his team know that in a 12 round fight I’m bound to catch him clean, knock him spark out and it will be curtains Khan.”
“I hope that ITV do the right thing in my opinion and insist on traditional titles and follow a similar policy that Sky has implemented which has obviously worked very well for British boxing.”
Jon Thaxton – British Lightweight Champion
