Gomez: “Arthur’s Scared, Give Me Harrison.”

By Boxing Press February 2nd, 2005 All Boxing News, Press Releases

Manchester hardman Michael Gomez has thrown down an audacious challenge to WBO world featherweight champion Scott Harrison to step up a division and fight him in a sensational all-British clash. All-action Gomez wants the fearsome Scot next and believes he can beat him after watching his controversial title defence against Victor Polo last Friday that ended in a draw with the Glaswegian retaining his crown. First, Dublin born Gomez defends his WBU world super-featherweight title against Javier Alvarez on February 11 at the M.E.N Arena in Manchester and then he wants the two-time World champion next - in Scotland.

"After watching his fight with Polo I know I will smash Harrison to bits." stormed Gomez.

"I'm offering him the chance to step up to super-featherweight and fight me and I'm more than happy to go to Scotland and knockout him out in front of his fans,"

"He was so lucky against Polo. How can he talk about fighting the big boys out there like Marco Antonio Barrera, Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez? They will slaughter him. If he wants to get battered by a fighter with a Mexican name he doesn't have to go to America - he can stay in Glasgow and fight me,"

The Mancunian terror has destroyed three Scottish fighters in his career - Ian Macleod, Craig Docherty and Alex Arthur - and he wants Harrison scalp next to secure a grand-slam of victories.

He has proved that he is not scared to fight in Scotland after pummelling Edinburgh golden boy Alex Arthur inside five rounds in October 2003 and will thrive of the hate-filled atmosphere.

The twenty-eight-year-old added, "Harrison is big and strong and that's about it. What will he do when I trade punch-for-punch with him, move him around and then sparko him? I will fight him anywhere at anytime. I want to get the fight on as soon as possible. I can assure you that it will not go down to judges or scorecards because I will knockout Harrison clean out and flat out,"

"It's a fight that the public wants to see and I'm happy for it to be in Scotland right in his own backyard. I would love it there because the atmosphere would be electric and will really get me going. I will do to him what I did to Arthur,"

The mad Manc finished by saying, "Forget about me fighting Arthur again, he's shown me his true colours and its yellow. I offered him a rematch last year and even went ringside to one of his fights to challenge him man-to-man but he scampered off. I know that Arthur isn't man enough to face me but at least Harrison has got the chance to get some credit back and fight for Scottish boxing's honour by accepting my challenge."

Tickets for 'United in the City', headlined by Gomez's title defence against Javier plus a full supporting card, are available from the M.E.N Arena Box Office on 0870 190 8000 or Keith Prowse Ticketing on 0870 906 3839.
