The Matador vs. The Bull

By Boxing Press February 7th, 2008 All Press Releases

Rendall Munroe gets the opportunity to join the big league when he takes on European super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez at the Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre in Nottingham, England on March 7, 2008.

Munroe has gone one step ahead of his anticipated challenge for Esher Pickering’s British title by targeting the European title first and will be relying on his undoubted skills to beat his hugely talented opponent.

Last August, Martinez took the smile out of the Irish eyes when he stopped Bernard Dunne in the first round, and the immensely talented Munroe will be looking to take Martinez’s title back to the British Isles to set up a super fight with Pickering.

"Opportunities like this don’t come around all of the time," said Munroe. "I will be 100% plus for this fight and there is no way that I am frightened of the Spaniard’s power because he has to catch me first before he can hit me. If this fight goes the distance he will end up looking like a bull that has been speared by a matador."

The chief support bout sees a thrilling contest between Commonwealth bantamweight champion Jason Booth, who make the first title defence against the unbeaten Ghanaian Lante Addy.

Booth will be eager to impress his hometown crowd on a show that includes the return of his brother Nicky, a former British and Commonwealth bantamweight titlist, and he is in no doubt what he wants next.

"I want a rematch with Ian Napa," said Booth. "I took that other fight [a loss to Napa last July] too early in my comeback."

An exciting addition to the bill sees the return of unbeaten Irish heavyweight Scott Belshaw, who is keen to make up for lost time and get back in the British heavyweight mix.

Frank Maloney Promotions presents ‘The Bull vs. The Matador’ at Nottingham’s Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre on March 7, which will also be shown live on Sky TV. Tickets are priced at £75 and £35 and are available by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0871 226 1508. For any further press information please call 0208 467 7647.
