Former IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz has chosen to give up his title in order to facilitate a fight with Julio Luis Castillo. The fight will happen later this year and be for Castillo's WBC lightweight title. Legal threats were made by promoter Lou DiBella if the fight between Diaz and Castillo continued with the involvement of the IBF title, arguing that his fighter, Leavander Johnson was already contracted to fight Diaz for that title. Avoiding the nuisance of a legal situation, Diaz decided it was best to lose the IBF title and still have the chance to fight for the WBC belt.
Stay tuned for a preview of the March 5th Castill0-Diaz fight coming very soon from our very own Richard Eberline.
