Ahmet Öner and Gary Shaw, the owners of Arena Box-Promotion in Hamburg, Germany, and Gary Shaw Productions in Totowa, NJ, respectively, announced a new joint venture today where GSP will be Arena's exclusive US promoter.
In their first event together, Arena and GSP will showcase two 2004 Cuban Olympic Gold Medallists, both undefeated as professionals, on May 17, at a site to be announced shortly.
Heavyweight Odlanier Solis, 7-0 (5 ), will be making his US debut, while NABF super featherweight champion Yuriokis Gamboa, 9-0 (8 ), world-rated No. 8 by the WBC, will be featured on the televised portion, which will air live on HBO's "Boxing After Dark."
“I get along very well with Gary Shaw, hje is exactly the partner I have been looking for," said Öner. "I saw some of his shows and liked what I saw. He came to visit me in Hamburg and we had a long and very good meeting. He's got excellent TV dates in the USA, and I've got excellent fighters – it just fits! I think we complement each other very well and I am convinced that we will be a strong team and have a major impact in the future.”
"I am excited and honored to be representing Ahmet and his roster of exciting fighters," said Shaw. "Yuriokis Gamboa and Odlanier Solis have the potential of becoming the greatest one-two punch in sports since Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and they will be the heart of our all-star lineup. American boxing fans are in for a treat, seeing not just the best foreign fighters, but the best fighters in the world, and I am honored to be a part of that."
