Risum Boxing: David Kiilu Returns To Ring May 3

By Boxing Press April 29th, 2008 All Press Releases

Risum Boxing’s Kenyan super featherweight David “Silent Danger” Kiilu, 27-8-2 (14), will return to action after a nine-month involuntary break from the ring, when he takes on an opponent yet to be confirmed over six rounds at the Club Afrique in hometown Nairobi on May 3.

Kiilu had to pull out of a few fights last fall due to illness and injury, but he is now reported fit-for-fight, and must win in order to be in the frame for bigger assignments later this year.

The former WBF Intercontinental, East & Central African and Kenyan champion is coming off two victories since loosing a close decision to former European champion Cyril Thomas for the WBF super featherweight title a little over a year ago, and doesn’t need to be as active as previously in his career.

He has experience from high-profile fights, and is hoping another one will present itself soon.
“The break since David’s last fight has been longer than anticipated, but illness and injuries almost always happen when they are most inconvenient.

"After this fight on the 3rd, we will be looking for a title fight. Preferably in Europe, but we will seriously consider fighting any of the domestic opponents in Kenya in a title fight also.”

“Featherweight, super featherweight, even lightweight against the right opponent, it doesn’t matter. David is game, and we are in principle interested in any fight that makes sense”, says manager Henrik Risum, and points out that a bout with undefeated countryman John Gicharu could be very marketable in Nairobi. Gicharu will also fight at the Club Afrique on May 3.
