Boxing In Germany: Marco Huck Continues Comeback In Bayreuth

By Hermann Helmut May 18th, 2008 All Boxing Results

World class cruiserweight Marco Huck won his second bout in a row following his failed bid to unseat IBF Champion Steve Cunningham last December with a ninth round stoppage of big punching Slovakian International Champion Frantisek Kasanic, 12-3 (12), at the Oberfrankenhalle in Bayreuth.

Former European Union titlist Huck, 21-1 (16), is looking to get back onto the world stage but is likely still a few more wins away from those kind of opportunities.

Also on the card, Alexander Frankel, 15-0 (11), KO'd Cory Phelps, 12-4-1 (7), in the first round to capture the vacant IBF Youth Cruiserweight title while Italian southpaw Francesco Pianeta, 16-0 (10), stopped highly rated American Mike Marrone, 18-1 (13), for the WBC World Youth Heavyweight title.

Ex-European Super Middleweight titlist Vitali Tsypko, 22-2 (12), won his third straight bout with a third round finishing of Marcin Piatkowski, 19-12-2 (6).

At the Eisstadion in Weisswasser, Vilmos Balog, 21-0 (12), outpointed Turgay Uzon, 27-11-2 (16), after twelve rounds for the vacant IBF East/West Europe Light Middleweight title.

Welterweight Zapir Gereev, 17-0 (15), polished off Mkwanda Matmula, 7-3-1 (5), in the first frame to annex the vacant IBF Youth title and novice Charles Damas, 2-3-3 (1), held Rene Mahling, 10-0-1 (8), to a draw in a contest for the IBF Youth Lightweight title.
