Kim Poulsen to Return to Belgium June 7

By Boxing Press May 24th, 2008 All Press Releases

Danish super featherweight prospect Kim Poulsen 8-1 (1) is coming off the most satisfying victory of his short career. On April 4th at the NRGI Arena in Aarhus, Denmark he avenged a controversial loss to Frenchman, Tony Jourda last year in London, and in the rematch there was no doubt about the outcome. Poulsen won every round, and even came close to stopping Jourda just before the final bell.

Poulsen was then supposed to return in late May, but the promoter of the show in question suddenly changed his mind despite a set agreement, leaving Poulsen “all dressed up, but nowhere to go”. Now he does have a place to go, as a deal has been made with EuroBoxe in Belgium for the 21-year-old to box on a card in Chatelineu on June 7. Risum Boxing is now working on the opponent.

This will be the second time that Poulsen fights in Belgium Last September he out-pointed undefeated Pole Tomasz Kwiecien in Soumagne, and received plenty of acclaim for his smooth boxing abilities in a bout that was shown on Belgian television. That performance made promoter Alain Vanackere inform manager Henrik Risum that he would be happy to see Poulsen back “any time”.

“We were treated very well last time Kim boxed in Belgium, and everybody was happy with the fight, so it will be a pleasure to come back. It is important to me, Kim and his trainer that he gets one more fight before the summer-break, as he has been in training ever since the rematch with Jourda, so he will be looking to put on another good performance before taking a well-deserved rest and enjoy the summer” says Risum.

After two fights in a row in his native country, Poulsen is looking forward to going abroad again. This will be his seventh fight outside Denmark, which makes him the most “international” of all currently active Danish professionals:

“I like boxing abroad a lot, because it adds so much to my experience”, says Poulsen, and continues: “and it was nice to box in Belgium last year, so I am looking forward to doing it again”.
