Arena Boxing: Sam vs. Vidoz Moved From Istanbul To Ankara

By Boxing Press June 17th, 2008 All Press Releases

Ankara is not only the Turkish capital, it is also about to become a major city for professional boxing in Europe. After last year’s “Bull Fight At The Bosporus” between Sinan Samil Sam and Oliver McCall, Arena will be back in Ankara on July 4 at the Büyük Anadolu Hotel.

The main event features local hero Sinan Samil Sam again who takes on “The Titanium Jaw”, Paolo Vidoz, from Italy for the vacant European Heavyweight Championship.

Originally, Arena-CEO Ahmet Öner had planned to present the show in Istanbul. Now, he has decided to go back to the capital.

“The people in Ankara are just crazy about boxing”, said Öner. “And they’re especially crazy about Sinan, who lives here as well. The Büyük Anadolu Hotel pulled out all the stops to host this fight. He is a real superstar here. And I think he is very happy to fight in front of his home crowd again as he has something to make up for after losing to McCall.”

There will be 10 fights in total including the pro-debut of Cuban defector and former world amateur champion, Erislandy Lara, and the long awaited clash between heavyweight sensation Odlanier Solis and former world champion Francois Botha.
